- 2 ounces salted caramel vodka
- 2 ounces butterscotch schnapps
- 2 ounces Irish cream liqueur
- Ice cubes
- Coarse salt for rim optional
- Caramel sauce drizzle optional
Optional Garnishes:
- Mini pretzels
- Caramel candy pieces
- Whipped cream
Step 1: Chill the Glasses
Place your shot glasses in the freezer for about 10 minutes before making the drinks.
This small step actually makes a big difference. Cold glasses help keep the shots creamy and smooth longer.
I skipped this once during a rushed party setup, and the shots warmed up pretty quickly.
Step 2: Prepare the Salt Rim
If you want the salty rim, pour a little caramel sauce onto a small plate.
Dip the edges of the shot glasses lightly into the caramel, then into coarse salt.
You don’t need a thick layer. Too much salt can overpower the drink.
The salty edge is what gives the shot that sweet-and-salty dessert flavor.
Step 3: Fill the Shaker With Ice
Add a generous handful of ice cubes into a cocktail shaker.
The shaker should be about halfway full.
Cold ingredients matter more than people think with creamy shots.
Step 4: Add the Liquor
Pour the salted caramel vodka, butterscotch schnapps, and Irish cream into the shaker.
At this point the mixture smells sweet and buttery, almost like caramel candy.
I noticed using cheaper Irish cream can sometimes make the texture thinner, so I usually stick with a decent brand if possible.
Step 5: Shake Well
Secure the lid tightly and shake for about 15 to 20 seconds.
You want the outside of the shaker to feel very cold.
The drink should become creamy and slightly frothy.
One time I barely shook it because I was in a hurry, and the ingredients didn’t blend as smoothly.
Step 6: Pour Into Shot Glasses
Strain the mixture evenly into prepared shot glasses.
If you want extra presentation, drizzle a tiny amount of caramel sauce inside the glasses first.
The color should look light caramel with a creamy texture.
Step 7: Serve Immediately
Serve the shots right away while they’re cold.
You can garnish with a mini pretzel or a little whipped cream if you want a fun dessert-style look.
These are best fresh because the creamy ingredients separate a little if they sit too long.
- Freeze the shot glasses before serving.
- Use large ice cubes because they melt slower.
- Add a tiny pinch of cinnamon for warmer flavor.
- Drizzle caramel lightly inside the glasses for extra presentation.
- Shake longer than you think for smoother texture.
- Serve immediately after mixing.
